legacy

leave a comment »

We get to leave a legacy.

I think about that because I work with various computer and IT things and there are often older systems around, called “legacy.”   Legacy is what we leave behind – OR – legacy is what we decide to keep using because we refuse to move forward.

What are you doing and why?

default to clean and organized

leave a comment »

Over the weekend, as I was doing laundry and cleaning up some of my things (as well as dealing with a spring cold), I thought of something… I think there are 2 kinds of defaults relating to clean and organized.  1 – “Keep everything clean and organized, except for the areas in use.  Then clean those up when your done.”  2 – “Keep the areas in use clean and organized, and other areas can be unkept or less clean and organized.”

I was reminded by my roommate (not that he’s this way or that his house is this way… just another viewpoint) that there may be another kind of default here.  3 – “Everything is cluttered, all the time.”  I didn’t include that default, because I don’t think it’s healthy or reasonable.  It’s certainly not pleasant.

Which one are you?  How does it affect your relationships?  Do you gravitate towards one default in some situations and another default in others?  Is this a priority, and if so does that affect your default?

Anyway, it’s something to think about when you take the time to look around and listen to your surroundings.

sow much fodder

“Sow a thought and you reap an action; sow an act and you reap a habit; sow a habit and you reap a character; sow a character and you reap a destiny.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I can hardly sit through ten minutes of television without bursting with more ideas of things to write about…  “Common sense” is not common.  I don’t claim to know how to fix that.  I do claim (write now – pun intended) to know how to write about it and hopefully lead to others’ thinking about it, which can lead to improved thinking and can facilitating positive change.  That’s not a slippery slope falacy of argumentation.  That’s an approach to contributing to society and impacting people’s lives.  That’s something worth spending time on and worthy of valiant effort.

Treasured Sunday Mornings

leave a comment »

It’s another quiet Sunday morning here in Minneapolis.  We got up to 50 whole degrees yesterday and it looks like it will get to about 55 today and 60 on Monday.  I’m sitting by the fire, sipping coffee and doing some reflecting and prioritizing.  It’s quiet, tranquil and very invigorating, all at the same time.

One thing that I’m learning to prioritize is time.  Time spent with family and friends is vital for maintaining a healthy balance with all the weighted priorities of work.  That valuable time with friends is fellowship time.  Over the past few years, learning how to to be appropriately selfish with my time has made a big difference in maintaining a healthy, content and simple life.

Lately, Sunday mornings have been a time when I’ve been able to listen to my own thoughts and enjoy how much bouncing around, creativity is going on inside this head of mine.  I can’t accomplish all of the things I would like to accomplish.  So, I’m learning to want to accomplish selective things and to let many things go.  It’s simple, but hard to maintain that.  I’m glad I’m learning.

With these Treasured Sunday Mornings I’ve accomplished my desire to make time to enjoy solitude.  It feels good.
